Governor Jim Doyle today announced that four Wisconsin cities are receiving a total of $2,014,698.33 through the state’s Lift Bridge Aids program.
The funding will help cover costs incurred in 2009 for maintaining and operating nine lift bridges on Wisconsin’s connecting highways.
“As Governor, I have worked hard to build our transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said. “This funding is yet another way to promote economic development, create good-paying jobs and support public safety.”
The Lift Bridge Aids program reimburses cities for costs associated with maintaining and operating lift bridges on highways that provide connections to the state trunk highway system.
The program is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and funded through the Transportation Fund from state-collected highway user fees, motor fuel taxes and vehicle registration fees.
