Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno cut the ribbon Monday to open the new 5,000 square foot headquarters for Sophion Bioscience, Inc.
“Economic recovery happens one hire and one company at a time,” the Lt. Governor said after a brief ceremony. “Sophion represents the many smaller biotech companies that are growing in New Jersey.”
Since its founding in 2004, Sophion Bioscience, Inc. has grown from a two-person operation in a small laboratory to a fully operational subsidiary of the Danish company, Sophion Bioscience A/S, employing 50 people.
Its function is to provide advanced products and integrated solutions for automated patch clamping.
The new facility, which will allow for further expansion, is located at the Technology Centre of New Jersey’s Biotechnology Development Center on Route 1.
The facility houses Sophion’s activities related to technical support and live QPatch demonstrations.
Sophion’s QPatch is a high-end research tool used in laboratories for testing the effects of many different potential medicinal compounds on electrical currents in living cells.
“The company’s commitment to New Jersey is another example of the state’s prominence in the life science field,” Lt. Governor Guadagno said.
“Sophion, Inc. is really proud to be a part of the economic growth and recovery in New Jersey,” said Chris Mathes, Ph.D., Sophion’s Vice President and General Manager, North America. “Many small biotech companies, like Sophion, are chipping away at unemployment and supporting the industry in order to maintain this state as a world-wide pharma hub.”
Lt. Governor Guadagno’s visit to Sophion was her fifteenth in a series of visits she is making to 100 businesses of all types throughout New Jersey.
The message the Lt. Governor brings is simple: the Christie Administration is committed to making New Jersey a better state in which to conduct business.
During these visits, Lt. Governor Guadagno urges business leaders to seek the state’s assistance whenever problems arise.
The state’s approach is working.
About 7,000 private sector jobs were created in New Jersey in February.
