Governor John Kitzhaber’s Marketplace Kick Starts Small and Independent Business Opportunities with the State.
The Governor’s Marketplace 2011, a conference set for February 24th at the Salem Conference Center.
It is the new administration’s first step toward engaging small and independent businesses in creating jobs for Oregonians.
Hosted by the state Director of Economic & Business Equity, Cheryl Myers, this year’s conference features a new concept: a “procurement potluck,” which will bring state agencies and business owners together to conclude agreements on the spot for providing goods and services to the state.
“Getting Oregonians back to work is my top priority,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “State agencies can give a strong boost to Oregon’s economic turnaround by supporting the successful growth of our small-business sector.”
“At the Speed of Business” is the conference theme, the Governor said, which reflects his sense of urgency in creating new jobs and establishing productive relations between state agencies and businesses. The conference will feature presentations by private and public-sector experts on a wide range of issues that are important to business owners, including marketing, managing risk, contracting with state and federal agencies, sustainability, safety, and growing a business.
