Minority Leader Boehner: Democrats Resting On Their Failures

Americans Are Looking for Job Creation and Spending Cuts, and Democrats Come Up Epically Short.

As House Democrats sprint to the exits of the Capitol for an early departure, they leave in their wake a tattered record, unfulfilled obligations, and no answers for Americans looking for plans to create jobs and cut spending.

In contrast, House Republicans have offered A Pledge to America, a new governing agenda providing solutions that could be implemented today to address the nation’s top priorities.

In the week since the Pledge’s introduction, House Democrats have spun themselves in circles to explain why they don’t want to cut spending or provide economic certainty for American small businesses.  The contrast has been clear.

Yet having adjourned Congress early, obviously unwilling to prevent a record tax hike on American families and small businesses, loath to rein in Washington spending, and uninterested in listening to the American people, inquiring minds are left wondering exactly what it is that Washington Democrats have to offer a nation looking for solutions.

This morning, Politico reports that Democrats don’t even know themselves:

House Democrats have spent the past week dismissing the Republican agenda, ‘A Pledge to America,’ as a budget-busting, irresponsible return to the Bush era.”

“But what’s the Democratic agenda…? They don’t seem to have a quick answer.”

“Some Democrats are in a damage-control mode, barely able to look past Nov. 2. Others are defensive, believing they just need to do a better job of explaining to the American people what they’ve done on health care, financial reform and jobs bills.”

“The official word on the Democratic agenda, if you listen to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is a vague promise to keep moving the country forward.”

Americans are certainly looking to move forward, but if the answer from Democratic Leaders is more of the same, that is an agenda that will keep us firmly planted in the mud.

As Democrats apparently have no new plans, are committed to continuing in the same failed direction, and are evidently content enough with their accomplishments to adjourn Congress early this year, we are left only to look back at Democrats’ idea of moving the country forward:

  • A failed trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ spending spree that will force our kids and grandkids to pick up the tab for decades
  • 9.6 percent unemployment in August, the 16th consecutive month over nine percent
  • A costly, job-killing government takeover of health care enacted against the will of the people
  • An 88 percent increase in domestic discretionary spending since 2008
  • A $1.47 billion budget deficit, and $13 trillion national debt
  • Crippling uncertainty that is preventing investment and new hiring for small businesses

House Republicans understand that Americans are looking for leadership and real solutions to address their concerns about jobs and spending.

With A Pledge to America, the GOP has laid out a new governing agenda that reflects the top priorities of the American people and is rooted in our nation’s founding principles.

With plans to create jobs, rein in spending, and reform Congress, Republicans are listening to the people and providing solutions.

Meanwhile Democrats seem to be more interested in printing their boarding passes than promoting any new ideas.
