Funds will help streamline state’s Medicaid processes, allow better communication between patients and doctors.
Governor Chet Culver announced today that Iowa will receive $1.16 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to help plan Medicaid’s participation in implementing a statewide electronic health records system. Iowa is the first state to receive matching funds under this national grant.
“Iowa has the opportunity to become the best state in the country in terms of e-health, electronic medical records, and information sharing between doctors and patients,” said Governor Culver.
“This is a perfect example of the state and federal governments working together for the benefit of Iowans, and will help them as they make decisions related to their medical care.”
These funds are part of a 90-percent federal match to help the Iowa Department of Human Services develop an incentive program for medical providers, in collaboration with the state’s creation of a comprehensive electronic health records system led by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Iowa’s Medicaid provides needed health care services to more than 425,000 Iowans.
