Governor Rick Perry today credited Texas’ sound economic principles, including keeping taxes low, maintaining a reasonable and predictable regulatory climate and fair legal system, and skilled workforce with helping make Texas the best state in the nation to live, work and do business.
The governor participated in a ribbon cutting for Cisco’s new Allen Data Center.
“In Texas, we’ve worked hard to foster an environment that frees employers to do what they do best – dream big, meet challenges and create jobs, and employers of all sizes and from all industries are discovering the Texas advantage and bringing jobs with them,” Gov. Perry said. “Cisco’s decision to build this facility here is further proof we’re on the right track, reaping the benefits of years of policy decisions that are job friendly and fiscally disciplined.”
Gov. Perry credited Texas’ sound economic principles with helping the Lone Star State lead the national economic recovery, and add more jobs than any other state over the past 10 years and in 2010.
Strengthening these principles remains a priority for the governor through this legislative session. Texas’ unemployment rate also remains lower than the national average, dropping 8.1 percent in March, compared to the national average of 8.8 percent.
The governor also credited the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) and Texas Emerging Technology Fund with helping attract jobs and capital investment to our state economy, and top researchers to our institutions of higher education.
Just this week, eBay announced it is expanding its Austin office and creating more than 1,000 jobs thanks in part to a $2.8 million investment through the TEF, and today 3M announced it is expanding a facility in Angleton that will create 55 jobs and generate an estimated $21.2 million in capital investment with the help of a $194,000 TEF investment.
Yesterday, Gov. Perry hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation of elected officials and business leaders from California to discuss economic development efforts and Texas’ approach to attracting jobs and employers to our state.
Texas’ economy continues to receive national recognition. Site Selection Magazine awarded Texas the 2010 Governor’s Cup for the most new and expanded corporate facilities announced over the year.
Newsweek recently ranked four Texas cities in its list of 10 cities best situated for economic recovery, and described Texas as the top destination for job-seeking Americans.
The Wall Street Journal recently credited the state’s low taxes and employer-friendly environment with helping make Texas the job creation capital of the nation.
Additionally, Texas was recently designated the top exporting state in the nation for the ninth year in a row, and no other state is home to more Fortune 1000 companies.
