Agency for Workforce Innovation Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo today announced the presentation of Veterans Incentive Awards to three of the state’s One-Stop Career Centers for the outstanding service to veterans provided by their employees.

“As Florida’s workforce system continues to enhance its commitment to serving those who served our country, I commend our workforce partners for ensuring our veterans have the innovative training and placement services necessary to successfully transition to civilian employment,” said Director Lorenzo. “Florida’s businesses and our economy are stronger as a result of the exceptional leadership and advanced skills our veterans bring to the workforce, and I applaud the dedicated One-Stop professionals who are connecting our veterans with employment opportunities.”

The federal Jobs for Veterans Act established a program to provide performance incentives to recognize the One-Stop Career Centers, operated in Florida by 24 Regional Workforce Boards, that provide excellent employment services to veterans.

Under the act, states can designate up to 1 percent of their Jobs for Veterans State Grant allocation for incentive awards.

A committee comprised of representatives from AWI, Workforce Florida, Inc., the Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training program and Florida’s Department of Veterans Affairs reviewed the nominations and selected winners.

A total of $99,000 was shared equally by the three One-Stop Career Center award recipients.

The One-Stop Career Centers being recognized are:

Escarosa Career Center- Pensacola
3670-A North L Street
Pensacola, FL 32505

Polk Works One-Stop Center
600 N Broadway Ave.
Bartow, FL 33830

Workforce Plus
Town South Plaza
2525 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32301

The Veterans Incentive Award funds will be used to encourage the improvement of employment, training and placement services for veterans, and to encourage One-Stop Career Centers to strive for superior performance in all areas of service delivery for veterans.
