The Prime Minister has called on businesses to help young people entering the job market and give them that “crucial first break”.

In a podcast addressing the theme of responsbility, Gordon Brown talked about what banks and businesses should do to help avoid problems such as unemployment.

The Prime Minister will address the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) on Monday, and said he would urge them to give young people jobs and training opportunities.

He said:

“I want employers to show faith in our young people, to see what they can do; to develop their talent and to provide that crucial first break. That’s why this year we launched our Backing Young Britain campaign. And that’s why this week we announced four new proposals to help young people into training or work.”

During a visit to Nottingham on Friday, the PM met several families taking part in family intervention projects which address anti-social behaviour and help families take responsibility for their actions.

You can hear his discussion with one of the families in this week’s podcast.
