First Commercial Bank (FCB), one of Taiwan’s largest, privately-owned banks has established an Australian base in Brisbane.

The new branch represents an investment of A$20 million in the first year and will see the creation of 10-15 new jobs in Queensland.

Mr Max Maa, Australian General Manager, said the Brisbane branch becomes FCB’s 14th overseas branch, joining cities including New York, London, Tokyo and Toronto.

“The strength of Queensland’s trade and investment activity with Taiwan was an important reason for the location of the new branch.”

FCB is one of Taiwan’s oldest banks. It has more than 190 branches in Taiwan and employs 7000 people world wide.

Both Austrade and the Queensland Government provided assistance to FCB to facilitate this investment.
