Watch ‘Beyond Gold: The Journey To The First Youth Olympic Games’ Captured Through The Eyes Of Young Athletes.
The documentary commissioned by the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) took 12 months to produce.
It traces the journey of three athletes in cycling, judo and fencing. We get a glimpse of the athletes’ perseverance as they train and compete for a spot to represent Singapore in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The documentary also gives an insight to the creative process behind the making of the Singapore 2010 mascots.
‘Beyond Gold: The Journey to the first Youth Olympic Games’, a documentary on the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010) will premiere on local free-to-air Channel 5 (English) on Saturday, 7 August, 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
The second run will be on Saturday, 14 Aug, 6.45pm to 7.45pm, just before the start of the much anticipated Singapore 2010 Opening Ceremony at 8.10pm which will be telecast ‘live’ from The Float@Marina Bay.
This first of two documentaries captures Singapore’s and athletes’ preparations for this once-in-a-lifetime historical sporting moment. The second documentary, with a focus on Games-Time action, is expected to be shown in September/October 2010.
Mr Eric Tan, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee said, “While the Organising Committee busied itself with laying the groundwork for the YOG, our athletes were also training hard and mentally preparing themselves for this high-level sporting competition.
Through this documentary, we get a glimpse into the ambitions, struggles and beliefs that athletes, and even the mascot maker, have towards the Youth Olympic Games. It is heart-warming to see what the Games mean to different people, and our common goal in wishing nothing less than a resounding success for the very first YOG.”
The media preview of the documentary is supported by Cathay Organisation, an Official Supporter of Singapore 2010. The Olympic Broadcasting Services will make the documentary available to Singapore 2010 Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) for airing on their channels.
