The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be providing up to $1 million to the Tamil Language Learning Promotion Committee (TLLPC) over the next 5 years to promote the learning and use of the Tamil Language.
TLLPC plans to enhance ICT-based learning for students by organising touch-typing workshops, E-Story competition for upper secondary and junior college students as well as developing pod-cast and vod-cast resources to support the learning of oracy skills.
This comprises a grant of $500,000 and 1:1 matching for funds raised by the community, subject to a cap of $500,000.
This was announced by the Senior Minister of State for Education and Trade and Industry, Mr S Iswaran, at the opening of the Tamil Language Festival today.
Over the last five years, TLLPC has organised various activities and programmes for students and parents, ranging from workshops on Oral Presentation and Drama, forums on Spoken Tamil, publications of TL readers and immersion trips to India.
It has also supported many TL organisations in their activities, notably, the Tamil Language Festival, Most Inspiring Tamil Teacher Award, Radio Jockey programme and a debate series.
The additional funding provided by the Ministry aims to encourage community organisations to collaborate with TLLPC to organise more such activities to benefit students and the community at large.
Besides continuing support for the existing programmes, TLLPC plans to enhance ICT-based learning for students by organising touch-typing workshops, E-Story competition for upper secondary and junior college students as well as developing pod-cast and vod-cast resources to support the learning of oracy skills.
