The AVA will extend its suspension on the import of all fruits and vegetables (from the affected prefectures of Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma) to include Chiba and Ehime with immediate effect.
Low levels of radioactive contaminants were detected in 4 samples of vegetables imported from Tochigi and Ibaraki, as well as Chiba and Ehime which are outside the affected areas.
AVA: Suspension on the import of all fruits and vegetables from the affected prefectures of Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma extended to include Chiba and Ehime with immediate effect.
Low levels of radioactive contaminants were detected in 4 samples of vegetables imported on 23 Mar 2011 from the affected prefectures of Tochigi and Ibaraki, as well as Chiba and Ehime which are outside the affected areas.
All the affected shipments have been detained and will be disposed of in an appropriate manner.
There is no cause for alarm for consumers. An adult would need to consume 3.5kg of these vegetables to receive a similar level of radiation exposure from one x-ray.
According to the Ministry of Health, the short-term consumption of food at these detected levels of radioactive contamination do not pose a health hazard. Read more
NEA: Current assessment is that the likelihood of any radioactive plume reaching Singapore remains very low.
MOH: Any Singaporean who was outside the evacuation zones will not need any form of medical assessment.
ICAO: There are no health reasons that would require the screening of passengers from Japan.
MFA: The number of Singaporeans leaving Japan has dropped significantly over the past few days.
MFA will suspend deployment of the Consular Teams that have been stationed at Japan’s Haneda and Narita Airports.
MFA will however continue to augment our staff at the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo to help Singaporeans who require consular assistance. Read more
