Organisers have also announced money will be raised during the JBWere Masters for Horsham and Marysville Golf Clubs, both severely impacted by the Black Saturday bushfires, to help with the rebuilding of their courses.

The Premier John Brumby said it was fitting that the 2009 JBWere Masters would help golfing communities who lost so much in the bushfires.

“We will continue to stand by communities affected by the February fires and support them as they rebuild their lives and communities,” Mr Brumby said.

“Supporting these golf clubs allows the Masters to provide a little back to these communities who have suffered so much. People attending the event have the opportunity to learn about the impact the fires had on these golf clubs and contribute to returning them to their glory.”

Jason Stirling, 21, and Beau Simmons, 20, will represent Marysville Golf Club and Nick Thompson, 14, and Jamie Nield, 14, will represent Horsham Golf Club.

Mr Brumby said the budding young golfers will be given tickets to the Masters on Thursday as well as entry to the private demonstration which will be attended by senior sponsors of the tournament.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young golfers to get up close and learn more about the game from the world’s best golfer and Australia’s best golfer,” he said.

Marysville Golf Club suffered extensive damage to greens, trees and irrigation equipment. The club received $200,000 from the Australian and Victorian governments.

Horsham Golf Club had its clubhouse/function centre destroyed and lost trees and other equipment. The club received $100,000 from the Australian and Victorian governments.

Other initiatives to support the clubs at the 2009 JBWere Masters:

  • Exhibition space will be provided at the event for Horsham and Marysville Golf Club to show the impact of Black Saturday and the rebuilding process at both courses;
  • Money will be raised in various activities via a gold coin donation over the week of the event in the Masters Village; and
  • Horsham Golf Club will receive a table of 10 guests at the JBWere Masters Gala Dinner.

It marks an exciting week for Marysville Golf Club who through the efforts of the Ilhan Allergy Foundation will host a charity golf day next Tuesday with leading Australian golfers Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott.  The JBWere Masters will also provide a table of eight guests in the Champions Club overlooking the 18th during the third round as an auction item at this charity day

David Rollo, Vice President Director of Golf IMG Australia, said the Masters was delighted to support such a worthwhile cause.

“The golf community all felt for those that lost friends and family or their homes in Black Saturday and this is our small way of giving something back.  We hope this provides a memorable day for these young golfers and that we can assist the rebuilding efforts at both Clubs.” Mr Rollo said.

The 2009 JBWere Masters will be held at Kingston Heath Golf Club from 12-15 November, 2009. Please note that all tickets are pre-sold and there will be no tickets available on the gate on any day.
