Harcourt Valley Primary School students will have access to world-class facilities thanks to a $1.8 million Victorian Government investment to build new permanent school buildings.

In Harcourt today, the Premier John Brumby opened the new facilities at Harcourt Valley Primary School and said they would ensure families in the region had access to the best education opportunities for their children.

“We know that access to high quality education opportunities is crucial to the liveability and prosperity of our regions, and we agree with parents that nothing is more important than their child’s education,” Mr Brumby said.

“That’s why we are making unprecedented investments in rebuilding, extending and renovating schools across our state and these new permanent facilities for Harcourt Primary School will ensure its students are given every opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”

The Harcourt Valley Primary School’s new buildings include new learning studios, combined with an adjacent flexible learning project space and indoor/outdoor connections, replacing relocatable buildings. There are also new administration, staff and student facilities.

The $1.8 million project was delivered through the Rural Replacement Program which provides permanent facilities at smaller regional and rural schools where existing facilities have been predominantly relocatable.

Mr Brumby said the government’s investment in Harcourt Primary School was part of the Victorian Schools Plan which about transforming education across the state through a $1.9 billion commitment to rebuild, renovate or extend 500 schools over this term of government.

“In Victoria we are building a world-class education system to invest in our state’s future and to provide every child, every opportunity to shine,” he said.

“We are providing students in government schools with a 21st century education to ensure they are well prepared to obtain 21st century jobs.”

Member for Bendigo West Bob Cameron said the primary school’s new permanent facilities provided flexible learning environments and top-quality education opportunities.

“This is an exciting time for the Harcourt Valley Primary School community and these modern school buildings will mean benefit students here by opening the school up to new teaching practices and new ways for our children to learn,” Mr Cameron said.

“This investment in local education from the Brumby Labor Government means that families in this area can rest assured their children are getting the best education possible close to home.

“I congratulate everyone involved in delivering this great new project which will equip students and staff of the Harcourt Valley Primary School with the best education facilities for the future.”
