Students at Caradoc Central Public School in Mount Brydges will soon have a better, greener and more energy efficient place to learn.

Premier Dalton McGuinty toured the school to see the progress being made on upgrades that will save the school energy and money. The school is getting new energy efficient windows and doors, boilers, heating and cooling systems and a new one-storey addition.

A crew of about 25 people are working on the project.

The school’s addition will include a gym, stage, renovated library and a general arts room. This will help make the school a hub for the community on evenings and weekends. The retrofit is nearly 50 per cent complete.

Ontario is committed to reducing the environmental footprint of publicly funded schools, making them better places for students to learn and succeed. It is part of the government’s plan to put Ontario at the forefront of the green economy.

  • Caradoc Central Public School is one of 600 schools where full-day learning for four- and five-year-olds will launch this September.
  • Ontario is investing $25.3 million to help the Thames Valley School Board make schools more energy efficient.
  • The government is helping more than 1,000 schools across the province become greener and more energy efficient, which is creating and sustaining more than 5,500 jobs.
