The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Prince Edward Island Business Development (PEIBD) are showing their support for small business through their participation in activities taking place across Prince Edward Island to celebrate Small Business Week®.

“The Government of Canada recognizes the vital role small and medium-sized enterprises play in strengthening the Canadian economy,” said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State for ACOA. “Support for small business is a central element of ACOA’s mandate and Small Business Week® presents an excellent opportunity to recognize the important role our business owners play in our communities.”

“Small and medium-sized businesses are vital to the success of the Island economy,” said the Honourble Allan Campbell, PEI’s Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. “The Government of Prince Edward Island continues to partner with industry to strengthen and diversify the economy and create jobs for Islanders. Our government is also pleased to support several activities taking place across the province during Small Business Week®.”

Small Business Week® is officially held from October 18-24 but activities in PEI began last week, through to the end of the October. This year marks the 30th anniversary of this celebration, under the theme: “Your dream, your business, your passion.”

One of today’s events, the Biz-to-Biz Expo, takes place at Charlottetown’s Seaport Event Centre from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring a kick-off ceremony, key-note speakers, educational demonstrations and a business mixer. It is an opportunity for business people and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services to the general public, as well as expose the business community to Government services and programs that support business development.

Every year, events are held across Canada to celebrate Small Business Week® and to pay tribute to Canadian entrepreneurs, by creating opportunities for them to share success stories, talk to leading business experts and exchange innovative ideas.

For information on activities taking place across the Island, please see full schedule at www.smallbusinessweekpei.ca.
