On behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament (Beauce), today wished a warm welcome to the participants of the 2010 Tour de Beauce.

The event is a six-stage, 816 kilometre cycling race taking place from June 15 to 20 in the Beauce region of Quebec.

“We are pleased to support the 25th anniversary of this extraordinary event,” said Minister of State Lunn. “The Tour de Beauce is one of North America’s premier cycling stage races and is an excellent opportunity for our elite and emerging Canadian road cyclists to compete against some of the best in the world. Hosting international sport events such as this brings significant sport, economic, and social benefits to Canadians and their communities.”

Funding of $50,000 is being provided through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program to the Canadian Cycling Association for the 2010 Tour de Beauce.

“Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers for 25 years of hosting this important international sporting event here in Beauce,” said Mr. Bernier. “Year after year, the citizens of this great region have rallied behind this event and have made it a true success story in the world of sport.”

“The Canadian Cycling Association would once again like to thank the Government of Canada for their partnership and generous contribution to host the 25th anniversary edition of the Tour de Beauce,” said Greg Mathieu, Canadian Cycling Association Chief Executive Officer. “Over the years, this event has earned a well-deserved world-class reputation, thanks in large part to the continued support of the federal government.”

The 25th edition of the Tour de Beauce is planning to welcome 15 teams, totalling more than 150 riders from Canada, the United States, Europe, and South America.
