Residents of Quispamsis will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to upgrade the community’s waste water infrastructure.
Project funding was announced today by Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy-Royal, and the Honourable Mary Schryer, Minister of Health. This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthening the New Brunswick economy and improving the quality of life for residents.
This project will enhance local services and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.
The governments of Canada and New Brunswick will each invest $1,733,333 while the Town of Quispamsis will cover the remaining cost of the project.
“The Government of Canada recognizes that modern, reliable infrastructure can attract business and create jobs for today and for years to come,” said MP Moore. “Our investment of over $1.7 million, provided through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, will assist Quispamsis to address environmental issues of today, and facilitate future municipal growth through improved sanitary waste infrastructure.”
“This infrastructure project will go a long way in ensuring that public health and the environment in Quispamsis and New Brunswick are protected and preserved,” said Schryer. “This project will help contribute to the sustainability of our community infrastructure.”
“I wish to thank both the Federal and Provincial governments for providing us with the opportunity to expand our wastewater system in Quispamsis,” said Quispamsis Mayor Murray Driscoll With this much needed expansion, we will be eliminating a potential 300 private septic tanks in Quispamsis, and allowing us to continue with sustainable development.”
The project will connect homes in Sun Valley Park and Forrester’s Cove Subdivisions to the municipal sanitary sewer collection and treatment system. With the installation of approximately 3,800 metres of gravity sewer line and one wastewater pumping station, the completion of the project will mean an end to avoidable environmental concerns and contaminations.
This project is one of 32 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $48 million announced on July 24. The governments of Canada and New Brunswick have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in New Brunswick communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan is accelerating and expanding the existing federal investment of $33 billion in infrastructure with almost $12 billion in new infrastructure stimulus funding over two years. The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick are working closely together to ensure that these infrastructure funds are being spent on priority projects across the province.
