$1.8 Million In Funding For The Towns Of Fortune And Grand Bank To Upgrade Water System
The Town of Grand Bank and the Town of Fortune will make $1.8 million in upgrades.
To their shared municipal water and sewer systems with support from the federal and provincial governments under the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
Funding for the new water and sewer systems was announced today by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador; and the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs (Acting).
The Town of Grand Bank will undertake two projects under the MRIF program to improve the municipal water supply at a total cost of $559,115 to purchase a computerized monitoring and control system for their water system and will also undertake improvements to the existing storage tank and some dredging of the intake area.
The other three projects will assist with water and sewer and street upgrades in the Marine Drive, Pearson Place and Courtney Street areas of the town with a total cost for all three projects at just over $813,228. The Town of Fortune will replace water and sewer services in the Pinchmarsh Road area of town at a cost of just over $409,000.
“These projects will greatly improve the quality of the muncipal water and sewage systems in these two communities,” said Minister MacKay. “Through our investment of just over $583,000, we are helping these rural communities improve infrastructure and the quality of life for residents.”
“The Provincial Government is pleased to contribute $954,726 to strengthen infrastructure for Grand Bank and Fortune, and supports the delivery of reliable and efficient water and sewer service,” said Minister Hedderson. “Projects will secure municipal infrastructure and modernize water and sewer services for residents. Reliable, effective services are essential to ensure that municipalities remain vibrant.”
The federal government will contribute $186,372 towards the computerized monitoring and control systems for the Town of Grand Bank while the provincial government will contribute $316,832 and the Town of Grand Bank will provide $55,912.
Contributions for the Courtney Street upgrades in Grand Bank will include $32,199 federal, $54,737 provincial and $9,660 from the Town of Grand Bank.
Contributions for the Pearson Place upgrades will include $162,446 from the federal government, $276,159 from the province, and $48,734 from the municipality.
Contributions for the Marine Drive work will include $76,431 federal, $129,933 provincial and $22,929 from the Town of Grand Bank.
The federal contribution for the project in Fortune will be $136,354, while the provincial contribution will total $231,802, and the Town of Fortune will contribute $40,906.
