Carrum Downs’ new $8.4 million police station is taking shape, with Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron today visiting the site of the new police complex.

Mr Cameron said the new station on Ballarto Road would deliver even better police services in the community as the Brumby Labor Government continued to ensure police had the resources they needed to help keep Victorians safe.

“This new facility is another step in the Brumby Labor Government’s ongoing commitment to making our state a safer place to live and work for all Victorians,” Mr Cameron said.

“The new station will boost local police numbers by at least 20 officers and will add to the effectiveness of current police in the region as they continue serving their community well into the future.

“Once completed, the new station will house the Uniform Branch, Traffic Management Unit and a Fingerprints Unit. Facilities include interview rooms, improved property storage, conference rooms, holding rooms and a gymnasium.”

Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera said the new station would feature environmental design initiatives including energy saving electrical and mechanical systems and rain water harvesting facilities for irrigation.

“This modern police complex will give Carrum Downs police the very best facilities as they work to keep local residents around Langwarrin and Carrum Downs safe from crime,” Mr Perera said.

“It will allow them to carry on the fantastic work they do in their local community, and will allow them to provide valuable support to officers in neighbouring areas like Frankston, Chelsea and Cranbourne.”

Mr Cameron said the station was expected to be completed by September.

He congratulated officers on their work to reduce crime, with recent Victoria Police statistics showing a 10.9 per cent reduction in overall crime for the March quarter.

Mr Cameron said the Brumby Labor Government was committed to ensuring Victoria’s police were well resourced.

“Since coming to office, our Government has committed $460 million towards the construction and refurbishment of more than 160 police stations and residences across Victoria as part of the state’s largest police station building program,” he said.

“We have delivered almost 2,000 additional police to the force and there are more on the way as the Labor Government has guaranteed to also deliver 1,966 additional frontline police over the next five years to help make our streets and communities even safer.

“I commend all police officers for the great job they do protecting Victorians and hope that when completed, this new station will help local police in their efforts to keep their community safe.”
