Australia Invests $10 Million For Climate Change Partnership

Australia has announced A$10 million for the Partnership for Market Readiness at the United Nations Climate Change negotiations in Cancun.

This investment forms part of the A$599 million for climate change fast-start finance announced by the Australian Government in June this year.

Speaking at the climate change talks in Cancun, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet said, “This is an important part of our fast-start financing commitment to help developing countries address climate change”.

“The Partnership will assist developing and emerging economies to use carbon markets to reduce their emissions.”

The Partnership is a unique fund that will help to mobilize private investment to tackle climate change and strengthen international efforts to establish innovative, market-based approaches to reducing emissions.

“Carbon markets are crucial for leveraging private sector finance and achieving the scale of funding required to reduce global emissions,” the Minister said.
